Keep the Honeymoon going!

We are finally home safe after a wonderful honeymoon in NYC and Jamaica! I wish that we could be on holiday forever but sadly its back to reality soon.

I am setting a goal for myself though that I can hold onto the carefree fun feelings that we had during the Honeymoon through our daily lives.

Thanks everyone for reading and stay tuned for the Adventures of Linds and Dave: Year One!

Airport follies

The airport went okay. For some reason, and I would need clarification, we only saw a photo of the Premier in the Arrivals Hall... I thought they had the Queen too at one point, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, there are no taxis out here. Guess they all took their passengers and split.

So it's. Bit of bedlam here as we just saw one cabbie choose to 'only' go to South Shore Road. Seemed that taxis get to pick and choose passengers - which is pretty untidy.

Anyway soon afterwards a cabbie came and is taking us and another person to separate places. Apparently there's a non-metered rate in place in situations where taxis have to double or triple up. Which sounds like a good compromise for all parties. Props to whichever bodies set that scheme up.

We're tired and I guess the honeymoon is now officially over. Thanks to you guys who read along with Lindsey and I as we tried to cover our vacation. For Facebook members, photos may go up of parts of the vacation. We may try to get our pix up (what few there are) on this site itself.

Yay, Bermuda.

Landed

Now of course the ol' immigration and customs fun. Have they changed the procedures again? Will people get flustered? Stick around and find out in the next episode!

Boarding

Whew. 12 hours after leaving the resort in Jamaica and we're finally getting on the plane headed for Bermie.

Hopefully the kids on board that have managed to get seated around us will be well-behaved and we can rest a bit on this plane. Need some good airline karma this evening...

Miami airport

I also pointed out to Dave that this is the first trip where we will be returning to the same home!

I feel that it is my duty to remind him and point out stuff cause say that he did put beds plural then someone might say "hmm do they sleep in seperate beds?" And then who knows what will be said from there!

Anyway my face is itchy again along with my arms at least my eyes aren't swollen! We decided to get passes to the admirals club since we have 5 hours to kill! The receptionist was very nice and gave us two for the price of one. But really why is it that when I am late or miss a flight I am practically crucified by the airlines but these punks only say now leaving at whatever time...no explanation nothing!
Thank goodness I am not travelling with kids cause this would have been brutal!

Oh well soon home! I can't wait to say hello to the customs agents!

Delayed again

The flight just got further delayed. Who's sabotaging the last leg of this vacation? Shoot we may just try to buy a pass to the Admiral's Club at this rate.

Sign that either my wit is failing or that Jamaicans don't get humour:

In Montego Bay airport I'm at the gate and there's a sandwich shop. I ask the person about the prices. She says the chicken sandwich is 7.50. The turkey one is 9.00. She says the egg sandwich is 5.53.

I'm all, what's with the exact amount thing. So I say, "the price of that is very precise, eh?", smiling as I say it.

With a totally straight face she responds with, "that's because it is an egg sandwich", totally missing the humour. So I look at her a bit to see if she got the joke, no reaction. So I just mutter a thanks and slink away.

But really, why not charge 5.75 or something simple? Oh and I didn't buy any sandwich in the end.

Drawing to a close

Headed home now... An early flight to Miami, but now are waiting in the airport as the Bermuda leg has been delayed, apparently. Which really sucks. We're just trying to get home and sleep in our own bed.

Linds just pointed out that it's 'bed', singular, not plural, so I just changed the last paragraph. My wife is quick to point out some of the omissions, huh?

Airport chairs aren't comfortable at all either. And the forced armrests means you can't lie down either... Which makes sense in most cases but if we're stuck here for a few hours... Booo.

Gloucestshire

Sorry, LT and Watts... when we passed through the strip today I noticed that the old faithful hotel, the Gloucestshire, looked like it was being halfway dismantled.

Looks like it's being renovated, at best.

The horseback tour was pretty draining if only because it took an hour to get there and two to get back thanks to rush hour traffic. As Linds said, she didn't have the best go of it; I may have done Damon proud by looking like a pro the second time around. No, not really a pro.

But it still hurts the thighs and groin, I gotta say.

Bags nearly packed so we're about ready to say farewell to the resort and the cool people we met.

Horses and dreads!

Today we put my bright idea of going horsback riding to the test. I imagined us galloping romantically down a long sandy beach and crystal clear water.

What I got was Charlie and a dread guide names Devon! Charlie was a good horse and Devon was a great guide however I was scuuurrred shitless (unlike the horses) the whole time! I was so tense that I got a cramp in my hand and could only have nervous one word conversations with those around me!! Jeez me and my bright ideas!

We are now at the resort our last night and gonna say goodbye to new friends and old friends!

Wednesday!

Regan and Aaron's wedding was beautiful! True to form I cried. It is so special to be included in other peoples special moment! I am tryly grateful that they allowed us to be a part of their day.

Now however I feel like shit! My face is covered in bumps my eyse are swollen and painful and my nose is stuffed! David and I have narrowed it down to pineapple juice! Way to many pineapples juices with breakfast and lunch, malibu and pineapple juice cocktails and 24/7 pina colodas!

David began this honeymoon listing he virtues of the pineapple...right now the pineapple is my enemy! We had to leave the reception early and poor David is stuck trying to take care of me...normally I take care of him and I'm pretty uncomfortable letting him take care of me! I guess I should feel lucky cause this has made me realize that I have to let him help me.

Have I said yet that I love my husband! Okay so I feel less like I'm going to throw up...so I can take some tylenol seeing as this dumb resort doesn't have and antihistamines!

[Mobile]

Need antihistemaines

The reception proved to be really nice. I think we are inclined to add Alberta to the list of places to visit, based on simply how nice and friendly everybody was. I finished my steak (as predicted), Lindsey did not (as predicted).

The bad news is that my wife is feeling worse. We think it may be a case of citrus overload (namely pineapple juice) causing some pains. The hotel doesn't have any suitable medications on site, which sucks. So I'm trying to take care of her as best as I can. Hopefully a good night's sleep will help us both out.

The wedding

Some of you know that this honeymoon doubled up as attending the wedding of one of Lindsey's overseas friends. I got to meet her and her fiancee a couple of years ago and found them to be great people. Going to Cancun to celebrate their marriage was without a doubt.

So Jamaica happened instead, of course, but we were stil looking forward to the ceremony. And today in gorgeous weather (too gorgeous, a bit too hot) we got to witness a beautiful ceremony where the bride and bridesmaids looked outstanding, the groomsmen great and everybody was in teriffic spirits.

Congratulations Regan and Aaron!

Afterwards we got some pool time and I got to dust off whatever remaining volleyball skills I once had. Soon we're going to a reception dinner.

A nice day although I'm fighting off a small cold and Lindsey's not 100% either.

Still on the resort

Last night we got on the tour bus with the wedding party and headed to Margaritaville on the strip. It was Sunday and I guess early by J A standards so the muisic was contemporary rock or something, neither Linds or I were too keen early on, and the prices of drinks didn't help.

But they switched to some reggae, and we had a good time. Yes I was on the dance floor, so that should mildly shock some of my old friends.

Then we went to the hotel disco to finish the night off. We need to find a way to get some photos posted here.

Today it has been eat and swim. The things we're interested in are pretty far away and expensive to get to. I mean, we can't even find Jamaican patties on the resort, pretty disappointing. Getting into the pool was nice though and we're coming off a little nap now.

Just heard that there's a new addition to my extended family, and we're excited about it. Whoo-hoo!

Feeling hot

The exchange rate for JMD$ to US$ is now apparently $86 to $1. Guess holding onto my 700 from previous trips didn't result in a huge windfall.

It's hot. We're waiting to get our rooms.

But we're here and it's vacation and yippee!

Early flights

How I hate them so. And yet we keep on ending up with them.

In Miami about to leave for Mo Bay... We were up at 430 this morning to leave New York and already are tired (me) or bored sick (Lindz).

Well about 2 hours from now we should be in Jamaica and hopefully taking a serious rest.

Happy Mothers' Day to all the moms (and moms-to-be... Jess)
[Mobile]

Honeymoon Phase 2

Happy Mother's Day Mom!!!

So we are sitting in JFK airport waiting to get on the flight to Montego Bay. JFK is the most ridiculous airport in the western hemisphere...even outranking Bermuda's airport.

David and I treated ourselves and upgraded to first class...which I will blog about later cause I am sure it is going to be heavenly.

Pretty excited about entering phase two.

Last night we went to see Shrek the Musical...very funny and worth seeing and guess what Joan Rivers was in the audience.

My mom let us know that Jess was going into labour it kinda made me want to go home earlier but then I thought who wants to listen to screams of pain and agony when I could be sipping a pina colada listening to Bob Marley tune!

Just kidding! Good luck Jess.

Let the ganes begin!

Big screen and small screen

Oh yeah, we did last night get to check out a Brazilian steakhouse. Meat skewered and served straight to the table. Good stuff. Will definitely try it again.

Today, our last day in the Big Apple, we've spent much of it indoors. Got to watch Sylar... I mean Spock and the others in the Star Trek movie, and now are about to catch a Broadway play. We're seeing Shrek the Musical, we're excited about it.

In the back of my mind though is the fact that we gotta pack later and prep to leave early in the morning for the airport. Cue the Red Bull...

Central Park and FAO Schwartz

I'm pretty sure that if Obama was in New York he wouldn't be staying at a big ol hotel in mid-town. But there are dozens of security personell and cops around the hotel (that we can see). Clearly a big diplomat, ambassador or other ranking official is either spending time or will be spending time here soon. Interesting.

Today we got to Central Park and walked around. Wasn't at its prettiest thanks to morning rains and renting bicycles may have been more fun, but it was nice walking with Lindsey through the park. Then we went to this toy store where they made Muppets, and had a giant Lego Harry Potter set. Bought a big-ass set of speakers that guarantees we'll need to get another suitcase today. Just chillin' now.

Honeymoon just got better

Last night after a fabulous dinner at a Brazillian restaurant (I am sure Dave will rave later) we arrive at the hotel the Intercontinental Barclay to find metal detectors and xray machines outside! This morning there are secret service types all over the place! This leads me to believe that Barak Obama is staying at the same hotel as us!!!! Which than leads to the question is it considered cheating it you have an extramarital affair with the president?

Right now we are on the hop on hop off bus on our way to Central Park to hang out...they say its safe now! But if I get murdered in the park I leave my tv to Gaerich and my shoes to Su!

But on a serious note we are having a great time and I am beginning to get excited about Jamaica.

Shopped out

When I'm devoting more than 2 hours straight on department-store shopping, I get 'fuzzed out', as my sister would say. Feet are tired, hands ache and it's like the day is elongated.

But we got a nice dinner planned later on and I'm enjoying the day overall. Probably gonna work in a little nap beforehand, though.
[Mobile]

Bad shoes

Walking around the city, trying to find a Starbucks, stumbled upon one in an NHL mecca after navigating through a shifty avenue where everyone was hawking jewelry.

Meanwhile, my sneakers are hurting bad. Need insoles, or new shoes, before day-end.
[Mobile]

Need coffee

Today looks to be much better, weatherwise. We are going to explore around and I suppose see if Lindz can get those shopping bags filled up.

My wife is a coffee nut so that's likely first thing on the agenda. I like a little coffee at times but it's a different situation with her.

Right now I'm just happy we're not in the office and getting to spend real quality time together!

Night 1

I would like everyone who reads this to show Linds some love... It's her first blog post after wanting to do so for so long. I think she initially wanted to do it with her cousin Jessica (where's that baby?) but never got a chance.

So send my wife some encouraging comments!

Tonight we're at Applebee's and man the service immediately trumps what you find in many Bermuda establishments. Makes me willingly pay gratuities instead of mutter under my breath when we get sub-par service.

We got the Trios! Yay!

Later, looking to go to a movie. Should be a fun evening.

My turn

I love my husband...so earlier today I had to ask him if we were doing this honeymoon thing right...

I mean, I don't have a suitcase full of little undies and we didn't really go anywhere romantic! But we are both having fun and enjoying eachother so we both agree that that's all that matters.

I wish I could be on honeymoon forever! Day one, even with the rain has been a success!

Day 1 - raaaaaain

So that didn't last long. Got royally drenched in Times Square after a pretty good ride to the area. Now we're trying to thaw on the long bus ride back to the hotel. Then, probably a nap.

Overall though we're hanging in there, have gotten to see a few new things which are cool. Linds and I got to start *some* shopping... Video game variety, which I'm usually up for... As opposed to shoes and the like (hopefully Linds doesn't see this post, heh)

New York

So we are going to try blogging the honeymoon for starts. We'll see how this goes... If we have too much fun we may not get to blog as much!

We're in New York and got ourselves a two-day bus pass. These are the double decker tour buses. Weather's holding up so we should get to take in the sights.
